Trauma and pain

Traumatic experiences can also be associated with physical injuries. These experinces can also affect the protective mechanism to heighten the centrally driven vigilance. This means that sometimes a physical injury can be slow to recover since the protective mechanism remains in high alert, the autonomic nervous system is activated, unrestrained, and the physical sensations of pain remain despite that tissue has recovered. In medical jargon this is named nociplastic pain.

Treatment involves a holistic approach which focuses on central desensitising specifically to calm the heightened vigilance of the protective mechanism and activate gentle, firm and reassuring restraint of the autonomic nervous system response.
